July Fun ...

July 4th Weekend was a lot of fun. My sister, Kim, and her family came to visit from Houston and it is always so wonderful to see them - we just do not see each other enough. We went to watch the fireworks at Drillers Stadium and it was SO HOT! They did not pop fireworks until after the baseball game so it made for a really long night with the kids. However, Josh always loves watching fireworks - no matter how late he needs to stay up! Some of our friends: Waylon, Melissa, Kami, Jay & Brooke also came to watch the firework spectacular!


Family Trip to Wisconsin


THE WEDDING ...

























July 11th -17th, the whole fam damily headed to WI to see Tim’s cousin, Jeff, get married. The wedding was on a private island in Oconomowoc and was simply beautiful. The recepetion was at this amazing location called The Golden Mast Inn - it had a German village feel to it and overlooked the lake. The weather was perfect and it was wonderful catching up and seeing the extended Govier family once again.

The top left corner picture (above) is Gene, Avery, Josh and Tim Geocaching (a treasure hunting game where you use a GPS to hide and seek containers) before the wedding. Thanks Uncle Gene! Josh now asks to do this every day now, meaning next time you are in Tulsa you are getting some one on one time with your nephew. ;-)


OFF TO RHINELANDER ...























After the wedding, Tim, myself, Josh & Owen headed 5 hrs. north to Rhinelander, WI and spent some time with my aunt and uncle at their home on the lake. I do not believe I have been to Rhinelander since I was maybe 10 - so it was good to see my family at their home once again. I was very surprised at the weather - it is what we call "spring time" in Oklahoma. The weather was in high 70's, low 80's and the lake water was a little cold for this Oklahoma girl - reaching a temp of 72 degrees. In the evenings, the weather was in the high 40's to low 50's. It was quite the switch & a nice change from what I am used to July weather being in OK.

Josh really likes the lake! He enjoyed driving the boat (even sleeping while driving - ha!) and exploring the three islands at the lake. The boys and myself also enjoyed a brief moment of relaxation on the hammock - what a wonderful invention!

The picture in the top left corner above is one that I am sure Owen will hate me for ... but, God I love it - he is my "little star". LOL! I think Owen enjoyed the change of pace and getting to hang out with mom and dad ALL DAY!

All in all it was a lot of fun and we are very thankful for our time in Rhinelander.


THE LOGGING MUSEUM ...
























My Aunt Stephanie had mentioned visiting the Logging Museum in Rhinelander and I thought "oh, really - can we?", but in all actuality - this place was awesome! If you have a little boy that likes trains you just cannot go wrong with the place. Josh loved it, Owen simply slept, but Josh was in awe of all the trains. There was a large G-Scale train set-up in the basement that was crazy - my Uncle Frosty told me that it was set-up like "old-time Rhinelander" the amount of work that went into this must have been nuts! Josh was able to ring the bell of an actual train and was very good at it ... maybe a little too good ... maybe a little too loud!

The day before we left for our flight we headed from Rhinelander to Franklin to see Tim's aunt and uncle - this shortened our time in the car to Chicago so I am sure the kids appreciated it! Spending some additional time with Tim's Aunt Linda, Uncle Randy and his cousin Julie was very nice. As usual, Linda was a great hostess!

We ended up getting to Chicago a little early before our flight which worked out great - we had time to enjoy some Chicago style pizza - yum!

Tim has lost 30 lbs. and Shannon has lost 10 lbs.

Owen's 6 Month Pictures

Owen's 6-mo Well-Care Visit

Owen had his 6-mo well care visit on Friday and the numbers are in:

Length: 26 1/2" - 50th percentile
Weight: 19 lbs. 5 oz. - 80th percentile
Head Circumference: 18" - 92nd percentile

The visit went well and Owen is doing great!

Crazy? Well, of Course!

I guess I can really stop labeling our monthly posts as “crazy”, because it is going to get a little redundant! In short, May, and for that matter the beginning of June, has been crazy too! But, I guess that is my new reality - one that I should have expected, one that simply landed flat on my lap with the wonderful world of two children! Having two kids has been a tremendous adjustment. Thank goodness there are two of us, we will have to think long and hard before we even consider kid #3 … we will be outnumbered! It just seems if it is not one thing it is another! If daycare is not calling about Owen – they are calling about Josh, if I am not taking Josh to the doctor - I am taking Owen, if Josh is sleeping – then Owen is awake, if Owen is not crying – then Josh is back-talking. Exhausting … completely exhausting! But, I still love it and I wouldn’t trade them for anything! I guess everyone was right … being a mom is the hardest job you will ever have, but also the most rewarding!

Owen had a rough go in May. As most of you know his level of fussy was out of control. We got a call from our daycare at the first of May that simply went something like this … “You have to get him to calm down or he can no longer come to this center”. Holy cow, right? Anyway, we took him back to the doctor and Owen finally showed his true colors - our doctor was simply amazed! She could not believe he had been that miserable and unbearable for roughly 16 weeks. She started to blame it on colic but quickly retreated when she remembered we were dealing with an 18 week old child, not a baby 12 weeks or under. Our doctor brought our “case” to a pediatric board meeting and one of the neonatologists thought that it MIGHT be an artery that was misplaced on his heart, so Owen had an echocardiogram and we quickly ruled that out. Shew! Next, it was time for an Upper GI to make sure he was digesting everything correctly and there was nothing anatomically incorrect with our little bundle of joy. The Upper GI took forever and was, in short, a mom’s worst nightmare. I am talking they strapped him to a papoose board and tied his little head and arms down - I thought I was going to faint! But, we got through it and finally got some answers. Owen has severe acid reflux, he does not empty his stomach fast enough and he appears to have a milk protein allergy (so, no more breast milk). With two GREAT medications and Soy Formula … wait …. wait … wait …. We have a normal and happy baby! Yea! Owen is a joy and his smiles are intoxicating!

Now that Owen is feeling better, he wants to be on the move. He sees what his big brother can do and he wants so bad to move and torment him. Owen started rolling over this week and is quite well at maneuvering his little chubby body. Oh yea, my 5 month old last weighed in at 18lbs. 15oz – let’s just go ahead and call that 19 lbs! WOW, that is a few ounces short on what Josh weighed at 1 year old.

Now onto Josh … Josh is such a big boy! He moved up to the older-3 classroom and is preparing to start PreK-4 – I cannot believe it! Where did time go? He enjoys correcting me (“Well, actually …”) and he loves quizzing me (“mommy, how many motorcycles are right beside us? Good job, mommy!).

Josh also started swim lessons this Monday so hopefully he will be more proficient in the pool this summer. Josh loves the water! You can tell it is summer as Josh’s hair is almost back to bleach blonde! I have to admit, he is pretty stinkin’ cute, if I say so myself!

Tim started his indoor soccer league last week and Josh really enjoyed watching HIS DAD play soccer. He was very proud of Tim and stood on the sidelines cheering “go daddy, go”. He enjoys playing soccer with Tim, whether that be in our backyard or on the field before the game, I truly believe this is the highlight in his little world. Josh will play soccer during recess at school and he and his teacher (who played soccer forever) pass the ball around and she teaches him tricks – it is pretty cool. There is a program called Little Kickers at the indoor soccer arena that we may take Josh to – I think he would like it.

Tim and I both started Weight Watchers and so far, so good. We have been doing pretty well and staying true to the plan. We have been on the plan for 3 weeks now and I have lost 4.2 lbs. and my studmuffin of a husband has lost 16.6 lbs! Hopefully we continue to see improvement week after week - I think since we are doing it together that it should help significantly. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as this is going to be a long journey!

As for me, the above is my world. Between managing this family and working full-time I typically meet myself coming and going.

April - One Crazy Month!

Well, things have been going well in the life of the Govier’s. This post will encompass so many different events that have been going on in our world, in short – April was a crazy month.

First, I have to tell a few Josh stories - he has been full of interesting moments lately that keep Tim and I laughing. First, for those who did not get the email from Tim – Josh is learning to spell his name and he is amazed with the letter “J”. One morning I received an email from Tim asking if I had removed the J from his laptop … my response, “ummm, gee honey, no … I just have not found the time to remove a letter from your laptop – what? huh?” Anyway, after talking to Josh we put everything together and Josh had pried-off the letter “J” while getting his breathing treatment the evening before! I can just picture the look of terror on his face when it actually popped off (LOL!) – he did his best to get it back on but managed to put it on upside-down.


Next, I went grocery shopping one day and put the toilet paper in the standard place (under the sink) and when I went into the restroom later that day, Josh had created a monumental toilet paper stack. What’s even really great is that since he is 3 and a very determined little boy, he was very proud of his creation and we HAD to keep it that way.

Tulsa also had a torrential downpour a few weeks ago – HOLY COW … the amount of rain was unreal! The pond behind our house got so full! Check out these pics! There is a trail that goes right behind our fence line that met the water – this trail is usually several feet away from the pond you see pictured. Luckily, our house actually sets pretty far up from the trail!

Okay, I just thought this picture was cute. This is one evening while Josh was getting his breathing treatment and he wanted to hang out with his little brother. They are just so sweet to each other!

My grandmother turned 80 on April 21st and we had a little celebration in her honor. We had family fly down from WI to celebrate and it was so nice to see them again!

One wild hair and we are off to Kansas City ...

Last Friday, April 25th was a beautiful day and Tim and I were just in the mood to get away and do something fun. You know, with gas prices sky rocketing - why not? So, we decided to go to Kansas City and visit one of my sorority sisters/college roommate. Sarah just had a little boy that is now 5 ½ months old – Tyler is so sweet and just a perfectly content baby! Anyway, we went to Legends for shopping & lunch. We ate at T-Rex where Josh made his own dinosaur and then we were off the the Carter's Outlet (which I love by the way!). We also went to a park that evening and just enjoyed catching up with some dear friends.

Key Personnel turns 30.

The company I work for celebrated their 30th anniversary today. We all dressed up in 70's gear and surprised our owner with a little celebration. The 1970's flashback was really fun. This is a picture of my friend, Stacy, and I in our 70's attire. Rock on, baby ... look at that fro and Stacy's outfit was just priceless! LOL!

It is official; Owen Gregory Govier was baptized on Sunday, April 13, 2008. He actually did quite well, although he did not care too much for the holy water being poured over his head and that we were interfering with his naptime! After the baptism, our pastor walked Owen around and met the congregation as everyone sang a song “Owen, Owen, God Loves You …” It was very sweet!

Owen has a tremendous support network! I just want to send a special thanks to everyone who came - we appreciate your love and support as we welcomed Owen into Christ’s family.

Sweet & Sassy – Avery’s 6th Birthday Party

Saturday, April 5th was Avery’s 6th Birthday (Josh & Owen’s Cousin). Avery had a great girl party at Sweet and Sassy in Edmond. All the girls got their hair done and dressed up like princesses – then they walked the runway and were introduced as a princess, crowned and sprinkled with pixy-dust. Wow … the girls loved it!

Josh was a little taken back with the all girl explosion - he was in search for mud, bugs or something BOY! To get Josh to participate, Tim and I bought him a knight costume and he was introduced as a prince - it was quite the sceen.

I will admit that I did, for a moment, think about dressing him up as a princess. Man, that would have made a priceless picture! he he he .. I know, I know … I am an evil mom!
